Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT is the most effective evidenced-based treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder as well as for people who struggle with emotional dysregulation, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, and treatment resistant depression.

Waves

"You can't stop the waves but you can learn to surf."

Have you experienced multiple of the below?

If so, DBT might be the treatment for you.

  • Frequent thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts, and/or self harm behaviors

  • Feelings of dissociation- not feeling present, feeling out of your body, losing track of large periods of time, spacing out

  • Depression that sticks around even with good treatment

  • Episodes of psychosis or paranoid ideation

  • Unrealenting crisis- feeling like you can't catch a break

  • Use of substances and having trouble maintaining sobriety

What is DBT anyways?

1) Weekly individual sessions with a DBT clinician

2) Weekly DBT skills class

3) Coaching calls to contact therapist for "in the moment" skills coaching

4) Therapist attends a weekly DBT consultation team meeting

Clients are asked to commit to the above for one full year.  During that time, if there is stability with high-risk behaviors and other targets, a client may move into the second stage of DBT that may include actively addressing symptoms of PTSD through an identified, evidence-based trauma treatment such as Prolonged Exposure or Cognitive Processing Therapy.

With that said, prior to starting DBT, Jenny will complete a full assessment to determine if it's the appropriate treatment.  If so, the client and Jenny will complete 3-4 pre-treatment sessions in order to build commitment to the treatment and ensure that the client can fully commit to the year-long process.

How do I start?

The first step is to reach out for an assessment.  I can help guide you through the process and we can work together to determine if DBT is the treatment for you.
